Kawasho Foods has expanded a recall of canned GEISHA Medium shrimp because it could have been under-processed, which could lead to the potential for spoilage, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration news release.

Kawasho Foods said it made the decision to expand a February recall after receiving additional information from the FDA.

According to Kawasho, the company received reports of “swelling, leaking, or bursting cans,”

The shrimp was distributed to different retailers in these states from Dec 2022 to Apr 2023:

  6. Connecticut
  7. Delaware
  8. Florida
  9. Georgia
  10. Iowa
  11. Illinois
  12. Indiana
  13. Kansas
  14. Kentucky

  17. Minnesota
  18. Missouri
  19. North Carolina
  20. New Hampshire
  21. New Jersey
  22. New York
  23. Ohio
  24. Oregon
  25. Pennsylvania
  26. Tennessee
  27. Texas
  28. Utah
  29. Virginia
  30. Washington
  31. Wisconsin

The shrimp is packaged in a 4oz. metal can, with a UPC label with the number 071140003909. The number is on the back of the label.

The FDA warns that consumers should not use the shrimp, even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

No illnesses or other adverse consequences have been reported to date in connection with this product.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return to the place where they purchased it for a full refund.
