Kawasho Foods has expanded a recall of canned GEISHA Medium shrimp because it could have been under-processed, which could lead to the potential for spoilage, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration news release.
Kawasho Foods said it made the decision to expand a February recall after receiving additional information from the FDA.
According to Kawasho, the company received reports of “swelling, leaking, or bursting cans,”
The shrimp was distributed to different retailers in these states from Dec 2022 to Apr 2023:
- North Carolina
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
The shrimp is packaged in a 4oz. metal can, with a UPC label with the number 071140003909. The number is on the back of the label.
The FDA warns that consumers should not use the shrimp, even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
No illnesses or other adverse consequences have been reported to date in connection with this product.
Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return to the place where they purchased it for a full refund.
Consumers with questions regarding this recall, can contact the company at (224) 278-9935, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST; or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
