SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Police in Sacramento, California, said several helicopters were broken into at the city’s executive airport.
The alleged thief tried to start them, but was successful in getting one to kick over, KCRA reported.
But the hopeful pilot wasn’t in the air for long. The chopper crashed shortly after, but they don’t believe anyone was hurt in the incident.
KTXL reported that the helicopter was a Bell 429, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The helicopter could be seen laying on its side and appeared to be totaled since the tail boom had a crack in it and the rotors were bent, KCRA reported.
Several other helicopters appear to have been damaged in the crash, KTXL reported.
Police said the person ran from the airport, but do not know who that person is, KCRA reported.
The FBI is also investigating the crash, trying to find out who did it, KOVR reported.
