FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – Police in Georgia have charged three adults after officials said they allowed several children to live in deplorable conditions.
Floyd County police said they had received reports that there were children living in a home that was not suitable, WSB reported.
When officers investigated they said they found three children — an 11-year-old, 14-year-old and 16-year-old — with roaches on their clothes and a home covered in animal urine, trash and feces. At one point officers said they saw a cat urinate on the home’s stove.
Officials said the house was “unfit for human habitation,” WSB reported.
Police said the children had a noticeable odor at school, WSB reported.
“The home is in such a state of neglect, the children’s health has suffered,” officers wrote in their report.
Robin Smith, Austin Byess and Albert Byess have been charged with three counts of deprivation of a minor and three counts of first-degree cruelty to children, WSB reported.
Officials did not say what the relationship between the children and the three adults was.
