It’s going to be a dry flight for passengers in the main cabin on American Airlines until 2022.
The company announced this week that it will not serve alcohol until Jan. 18, 2022. That’s the same date mask mandates for public transportation expire, CNN reported.
”We are doing all we can to help create a safe environment for our crew and customers onboard our aircraft,” the company told employees Thursday, CNN reported.
The company is also working with hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth and Charlotte to stop to-go alcohol sales, CNBC reported. The Federal Aviation Administration has asked airport officials to remind passengers that bringing alcohol on a flight is prohibited.
American Airlines wasn’t the only air carrier to stop alcohol sales during the coronavirus pandemic.
Southwest also made the move to not serve alcohol on flights, ABC News reported.
Both bans were scheduled to be lifted in September.
While American decided to match the alcohol prohibition until January, Southwest told ABC News a decision has not been made yet whether or not to change the end date, ABC News reported.
United stopped selling hard liquor but does serve beer, wine and hard seltzers on flights, ABC News reported.
American’s decision came the same week that the FAA announced fines against 34 travelers for alleged unruly behavior on flights, CNBC reported.
