With plenty of snowstorms blanketing the United States, many people are using snowblowers to clear paths.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, some snow blowers may not be safe. The agency said that the Toro Company is recalling more than 6,700 snowblowers sold in the U.S. and Canada to repair a problem that could pose an amputation hazard.
The Toro Power Max 826 OHAE Snowthrowers, with model No. 37802, was the product recalled, according to a CPSC news release. Affected serial numbers can be found on Toro’s website.
The products were sold in stores and online by Toro authorized dealers, and Ace Hardware and Home Depot outlets, the release said. They were sold to consumers between November 2020 and January 2021 and retailed for approximately $1,200, the CPSC said.
Toro, based in Bloomington, Minnesota, received five reports of incidents where the snowblower’s auger failed to disengage when the control lever was released, according to the CPSC notice. There have been no reports of injuries.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact a Toro authorized dealer for a free repair, the CPSC said.
