A fire department spokesperson told WSB that the pilot of the single-engine aircraft walked away uninjured after the plane went down around 10 a.m. in front of a retirement community on North Decatur Road off DeKalb Industrial Way.

Photos of the scene obtained by WSB showed a small plane upside-down on the road.

An unidentified witness told WSB that the plane appeared to have clipped a power line over North Decatur Road before crashing. Another witness told the news station that the plane nearly struck the retirement home.

The plane had earlier taken off from DeKalb Peachtree Airport, officials told WSB. The airport is about six miles to the northwest of the crash site.
