Jeffrey A. Loftus, 60, of Canton, was found dead and covered in blood after police responded to a 911 call at around 1:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday, The Repository of Canton reported.

“I think the guy’s dead,” the apartment manager can be heard on a 911 recording released by Canton police on Thursday. “There’s blood all over him. He’s not moving. He’s cold as ice.”

Police have not released the cause of Loftus’ death, according to The Repository. According to a news release Wednesday, the Canton Police Department said Loftus “appeared to be the victim of a homicide.”

An autopsy will be performed, WEWS reported.

The woman who identified herself as the building apartment manager told police she had seen Loftus on Monday night, according to The Repository.

She told the 911 dispatcher that she had not seen Loftus since then. She sent her brother to Loftus’ apartment because “the toilet was running really bad,” according to the newspaper.

Police spokesperson Lt. Dennis Garren said Thursday the investigation is continuing.
