The United States has reported more than 450,000 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The country passed the somber milestone late Wednesday, CNN reported. As of early Thursday, the death toll had reached at least 450,797 in the country, which has reported more than 26.5 million cases overall, according to Johns Hopkins.
The U.S. has seen more COVID-19 cases and deaths than any other country in the world, the university reported. India has reported the second-highest number of cases, with 10.7 million, followed by Brazil, with 9.3 million, according to the data. Brazil also had the second-highest number of deaths, with 227,563, followed by Mexico, with 161,240, the tally showed.
CNN reported that the U.S. logged 119,235 new infections and 3,796 deaths Wednesday, according to Johns Hopkins.
