R&B singer Jesse Powell, known for the song “You,” has died. He was 51.
Powell’s sister announced the singer’s death on social media this week, E! News reported.
Tamara Powell said her brother died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles.
No details were shared on how he died.
Jesse Powell was born in Gary, Indiana, and got his start when a music producer saw him perform at a talent show when the singer was in his early 20s, TMZ reported.
He signed a record deal, releasing his first album in 1996.
In 1998, Jesse Powell released “You,” which topped out at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B charts. His second album, “’Bout It,’” was certified gold after it hit No. 15.
Jesse Powell retired after his fourth album was released in 2003, TMZ reported.
