TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Some lottery winners use their jackpot money to travel, but a Florida man who cashed in a $1 million scratch-off ticket had a different idea.
James Musselwhite, of Sarasota, is going to buy a new golf cart.
Musselwhite won the $1million prize from the Florida Lottery’s $5,000,000 Luck Scratch-Off game, lottery officials said in a news release on Tuesday.
The former Marine said he had no desire to travel, since he had seen the world while serving his country.
“I guess the only thing I really want now is a new golf cart,” Musselwhite said in a statement.
Musselwhite purchased his winning ticket from Circle A Food Place in Sarasota. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket, lottery officials said.
Musselwhite, who was accompanied to Tallahassee to receive his money, chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $760,000, lottery officials said.
Even after taxes, that should be plenty of money for Musselwhite to buy his new wheels.
Scratch-offs make up a large chunk of the Florida Lottery’s gaming portfolio, about 75% of overall ticket sales, WTSP-TV reported.
