The ferret wandered to the home from the nearby Walker Ranch, where Fox 31 reports Colorado Parks and Wildlife has been releasing black-footed ferrets onto a prairie dog colony as part of a conservation effort underway with federal partner agencies.

The homeowners coaxed the ferret into a box. Officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife posted video on Twitter of officers releasing the animal back onto the prairie dog colony.

The black-footed ferret is the only ferret species native to North America, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
