FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Pro boxer Gervonta Davis is accused of striking a woman in the face at his South Florida home, authorities said.
Davis, 28, a Baltimore native who currently lives in Parkland, was arrested Tuesday at 2:50 p.m. EST and jailed on a domestic violence charge of battery causing bodily harm, a misdemeanor, according to Broward County online court records.
ESPN was the first news outlet to report the arrest.
An arrest report by Broward County Deputy Eric Blake stated that police arrived at Davis’ home at around 1:25 p.m. EST on Tuesday, the Miami Herald reported. Davis, the report said, hit an unidentified woman “on the right side of her head with a closed hand slap. This strike caused a small abrasion to the inside of (the woman’s) upper lip on the right side of her mouth.”
Davis who is 27-0 with 25 knockouts, has been training for a Jan. 7 fight in Washington, D.C., against Hector Luis Garcia, according to the newspaper.
Davis has held world championships in three weight classes, including the WBA lightweight title, the IBF super featherweight crown and the WBA super featherweight title, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Davis’ boxing promoter, PBC, declined comment, ESPN reported.
According to Miami-Dade County online court records, two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence-battery charges against Davis from February 2020 were dropped on Dec. 13, according to the Herald. Davis was accused of grabbing his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child by the throat at a charity basketball game at the University of Miami, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Davis has another court date scheduled in Baltimore on Feb. 16 for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident, the newspaper reported, citing court records.
In that case, Davis is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident involving four people, according to online records. He is also facing a lawsuit, according to ESPN.
Davis appeared in court on Wednesday and was released after posting $1,000 bail, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
