According to WSB-TV, the Atlanta-based carrier’s technical operations team bought 750 bicycles after raising over $40,000. Mechanics then put together the bikes before donating them – along with 1,300 toys – to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which will give the gifts to kids in metro Atlanta, the airline said in a news release. Delta also gave the nonprofit a $50,000 check, the release said.

Although the coronavirus pandemic presented some challenges and fundraising changes for the team, which marked the bike drive’s 16th year, employees “were steadfast in their commitment to make the holidays special for deserving children,” according to the news release.

“It is always heartening to see hundreds of bikes displayed throughout the hallway of the Atlanta TechOps facility,” Mike Moore, Delta’s senior vice president for maintenance operations and MRO services, said in a statement. “It’s such a proud moment to know that so many employees volunteered their time to assemble the bikes and/or gave generous donations to purchase bikes and toys. This is truly the spirit of Delta TechOps.”
