KINGSTON, N.H. – An explosion as part of a gender reveal party shook foundations, damaged homes and set off reports of an earthquake on Tuesday in several New Hampshire towns, authorities said.
Kingston police said a family set off 80 pounds of Tannerite, which is typically sold over the counter for firearms practice, at a quarry around 7 p.m., thinking it was the safest place to explode it, WABC reported.
“I’m not upset because I have chalk or confetti blowing my way. I mean, it was an explosion that rocked my house, my neighbor’s, my community and town,” neighbor Sara Taglieri told WABC. “It was just absolutely over-the-top ridiculous.”
Some residents reported property damage. There were no injuries, police said.
The blue smoke from the explosives indicated the family is expecting a boy. The person who bought the explosives turned himself in to police. His identity has not been released. It is unclear if charges will be filed against him.
