RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Police officers in California have questioned a woman after her 87-year-old mother was found dead inside a refrigerator.
Riverside police were responding to a welfare check after a woman’s family said they hadn’t heard from the octogenarian for weeks, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The woman’s 54-year-old daughter first told officers that her mother wasn’t home, but police said there were inconsistencies, so they searched the residence.
The daughter was her mother’s caregiver, officials said.
They eventually found the older woman’s body inside a refrigerator in the garage, KABC reported.
Police questioned the daughter, but she has not been charged.
Neither woman has been identified by name.
Homicide investigators are trying to find out if the woman died of natural causes before she was put in the refrigerator, KTLA reported.
