EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a major drug haul on Thursday, seizing more than $24 million in suspected methamphetamine.
The seizure occurred at the Camino Real Cargo Facility at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, where a 2010 Freightliner tractor hauling an empty box trailer arrived from Mexico, the agency stated in a news release.
Imaging and physical inspections revealed 1,221 pounds of the illegal narcotic hidden within the trailer’s walls. The estimated street value of the suspected methamphetamine totaled more than $24.4 million, the CBP stated.
“Although anti-terrorism is our primary mission, CBP officers continue to maintain their vigilance to ensure commercial entries are safe and free of contraband, as this narcotics seizure illustrates,” Eagle Pass Port of Entry Director Paul Del Rincon stated.
Officers seized the tractor, trailer and narcotics, the agency stated.
