ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mo. – A 21-year-old man died Monday night after he fell off an air mattress that he and a friend were using to float down Weaubleau Creek in Missouri, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:20 p.m., deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive person who had fallen off a raft and into the water. When they arrived, they found Bradley Dill, 21, lying on the creek bank. Medics attempted to perform CPR on Dill; however, authorities said he was pronounced dead en route to a hospital.
Investigators determined that Dill drowned after he and a friend tied themselves together at the wrists and got on an air mattress to float down the creek.
“Bradley had suggested wanting to go see the rapids on the other side of the bridge, and when they arrived, the air mattress came out from beneath Bradley and he fell into the water,” deputies said.
Dill’s friend, who was not identified, managed to get him out of the creek’s heavy current and onto the bank, where he called for help.
Authorities said Dill was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.
