EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers thwarted a smuggling attempt Thursday in El Paso, Texas, intercepting 128 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.4 million.
“This is a large amount of cocaine that is not making it to its intended destination because of the vigilance of the CBP workforce,” Ray Provencio, the agency’s El Paso port director, stated in a news release.
According to the agency, investigators at the Americas Cargo Facility inspected an arriving tractor-trailer driven by a Mexican national. The search yielded 52 bundles concealed within the commercial vehicle’s cargo determined to be cocaine.
The agency seized both the narcotics and tractor-trailer, and the case remains under investigation.
No arrests linked to the seizure have been made.
