HOUSTON – Police in Houston, Texas said Tuesday they are searching for the suspect accused of killing a 9-year-old girl and injuring her mother.
Houston police told KHOU that officers were called to a domestic disturbance between the child’s mother and a man, identified as Jeremiah Jones, on Monday night.
Investigators told KHOU that the woman had been in her home with her three children, ages 9, 7, and 1 on Monday night, when Jones showed up at the apartment. Officers told the station that the couple broke up two months ago after having dated for eight months.
The suspect was allegedly upset that the woman might be talking to other people when he came into the apartment, KHOU reported. The children were in a bedroom watching television.
Lt. Horelica of the Houston Police Department told KPRC that James went into the room where the 9-year-old was, and intentionally “executed” the child.
The suspect is accused of then coming back into the room with the mother, pointing the gun in her face, and making her get on the ground, KHOU reported. Police told the station that the suspect fired again, hitting the mother in the shoulder, before leaving in his car.
Officers told KPRC that Jones was out on bond for violating a protective order the victim had filed against him, and that he has an extensive criminal record that includes theft and reckless driving.
