Eric Church has always said that he would not sing the National Anthem unless it was at the Super Bowl. In an interview on Apple Music Country’s Today’s Country Radio, he commented “I’ve said this forever: ‘I will never ever sing the national anthem…’ it’s so hard. Except the Super Bowl,…I’m not Chris Stapleton. I fully assumed they were never going to ask me.”
At first, he said no because he didn’t think he was good enough. “My first response was ‘Mm-mm. I’m a stylist, not a vocalist,’” He changed his mind when he was told that he would be singing with R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan. Chruch said, “Once I heard her voice I was in.” Check out his full interview.
He’ll be singing the National Anthem with Sullivan just before kickoff at 6:30 pm on Sunday, Feb. 7.
