The COVID-19 outbreak in Baltimore has forced the National Football League to move the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens game for a second time.
The unbeaten Steelers (10-0) will host the Ravens (6-4) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally by NBC, the NFL announced in a news release Friday.
If the game is played, the Ravens’ game against the Dallas Cowboys, scheduled for Thursday, will be moved to Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Fox, the NFL Network and Amazon, the league said.
“These decisions were made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts,” the NFL said in a statement.
At least 12 Ravens players have tested positive for COVID-19, including Lamar Jackson, the current NFL MVP.
The Steelers and Ravens were originally scheduled to play on Thanksgiving night, but the NFL moved the game to Sunday after several Ravens players had tested positive for the coronavirus on consecutive days.
It will be the third time in the Super Bowl era that an NFL game will be played on a Tuesday, ESPN reported. It happened this year when the Bills and Titans met in Week 5, and also in 2010 when a blizzard in Philadelphia caused an Eagles-Vikings game to be postponed.
Before that, the NFL had only one Tuesday game. On Oct. 1, 1946, the New York Giants and Boston Yanks played two days after heavy rains forced a postponement at Braves Field. The Yanks went on to win, 17-0.
